Researchers at the University of Essex have developed a free mobile app that turns an iPhone or iPod into a hearing aid that could revolutionise the future for people with hearing loss.

John Pearce‘s insight:

This is one of a couple of similar apps that work by processing the sound from the microphone and replaying it through the headphones. The re-processing looks to remove ambient sound and manipulate the other sound levels to optimal clarity. Neat.
