We all know that the world of education is undergoing rapid change, well at least we’re told it is. Whilst the present reality may not reflect a revolution, the precursors of major change are often only recognised by looking back. There are folk who do look to identify trends if only to promote discussion. One of these groups is EPIC2020 which…..
stands for the proposition that the education of the world will change dramatically for the better during this decade.
Via two movies, (one of which is embedded below), they draw together some of the ways in which higher education is redefining their models of operation and look to dramatise how these may play out by 2020. At the same time Elon University in conjunction with the Pew Internet and American Life Project have surveyed ……..
…….. 1,021 Internet experts, researchers, observers and users, 60% agreed with a statement that by 2020 “there will be mass adoption of teleconferencing and distance learning to leverage expert resources…a transition to ‘hybrid’ classes that combine online learning components with less-frequent on-campus, in-person class meetings.” Some 39% agreed with an opposing statement that said, “in 2020 higher education will not be much different from the way it is today.”
All in all an interesting prospect that will no doubt impact on other education sectors.
