History of Search Engines – Chronological List of Internet Search Engines (INFOGRAPHIC) | WordStream
Whilst this may not be the definitive history of search on the internet, the infographic does provide a nice overview of the key points in how the internet has been explored and indexed. Along the way it also serves to highlight the relatively short half life associated with most web based startups. There are a number of what was regarded at the time as seriously big players on the list which are no longer around.
