Underground Mapping

Information Architects a self styled strategic design agency from Tokyo has recently completed a fascinating representation of what they consider the “200 most successful websites on the web” in Web Trend Map 2007 Version 2.0. Not content with a simple poster type production, (these can be purchased from aI, the agency has also produced a clickable snapshots web version. Mouse over the station stops and you can check out the site or latest RSS feed from the site in question.

The stops are plotted along lines according to the type of site such as sharing or tools. In addition each of the stops are categorised according to the web version they best present eg 1.0, 2.0 etc, and a weather type prognosis as to their future, (a touch controversial here one might think). If that is not enough, the main listing has an expanded discussion on how the map was put together complete with Japanese in-jokes.
