The Password Is Past It

Now that the hard drive has been re-inserted into the laptop, (alas it was recoverable and I missed out on a new, larger, totally clean drive), it is time to find out all those things that were once there but are now somewhere else. A look around the desktop and things look relatively familiar until you double click an icon. Up pops the torch/flashlight scanning around desperately searching for the program the shortcut is attached to. Not good because of course the program is no longer installed. It’s like a sort of “Where’s Wally?” exercise only more difficult.

This of course is only the start of it. I do have the ridgey-didge version of software like Macromedia Flash but somehow the box with the vital serial number has gone walkabout. The downloaded Quicktime Pro has similarly disappeared however in this case I don’t even have a disk nor serial whatever to refer back to, only a folder with the standard Quicktime player/plugin. The major worry is the disappearance of Keepass password utility that I have become increasingly reliant on to keep the myriad details of my various online identities. I can’t for the life of me find the files that the re-install of Keepass could link to to restore the identity details :( .

On another related tack, today we set up our new class never-ending/choose your path story wiki, the Big Vegie House. It’s very early days yet, (try day one), but if you check in, in a few days or weeks time things might begin to take shape. The wiki can only be edited by Senior P but we would love some comment via the Discussion facility from other wikispaces members. The process of joining the students to the space went much smoother than I had envisaged with only one or two students needing me to locate their login details. Maybe it is because they are becoming more experienced with all of this online identity stuff.
